You can link Aadhar card with PAN using different modes such as SMS, online, or through paper mode. The Aadhaar PAN link process is quite easy. Link Aadhar to PAN is important because when you file the income tax returns the tax department will not process the returns if your Aadhar is not linked to your PAN card. Aadhar PAN link Online:

For the Aadhar PAN link online procedure, you have to visit the official website of the Income Tax e-filling portal. Here we mention the steps of the Aadhar PAN Link process. There are two ways to link through the income tax portal.
1. Without Logging into your account

1. Without Logging into your account:

  • Visit the incometax.gov website. Click on the Our Service tab and click Link Aadhaar.

  • Fill in the details like PAN number, Aadhar number, mobile number, and name (as on aadhar card).

  • Check the box asking “I have only year of birth on the Aadhaar card” if you don’t have birth year mentioned on your Aadhar card.
  • Check the box “I agree to validate my Aadhaar details”, and select Continue.
  • Then you will receive the 6 digit OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and select the checkbox, and select Validate button.

2. With Logging into your account:

  • Register to the incometax.gov website, if you do not register already.
  • Enter user id, password and log in to the Income-tax portal.
  • After logging in click ‘Link Aadhar’. Select the ‘Link Aadhar’ option in Personal Details under My Profile.
  • Enter the required details like name, date of birth, and gender. Enter Aadhar number and name as per on Aadhar card.
  • Check the box saying ‘ I agree to validate my Aadhaar details’.
  • Check the box saying ‘I have only year of birth in the Aadhaar card’ if you don’t have birth year mentioned on your Aadhar.
  • Click the Link Aadhar button.
  • A pop-up message will notify you if your Aadhar card is successfully linked to your PAN card.

Aadhar PAN Link Through SMS:

If you don’t have a smartphone or because of any other reason you can’t register online for the Aadhar PAN link. Now you can link your Aadhar with PAN via SMS. Aadhar PAN link through SMS is quite an easy process. The Income-tax department has suggested linking the Aadhar card through an offline SMS facility.

The process can be done by sending SMS to 567678 or 56161 number. Send SMS to one of the given numbers through your registered mobile number. You can send SMS in the following format-
UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN> 
Example: UIDPAN 123456789123 ABCDE1212N

Aadhar PAN Link Through Paper Mode:

If you don’t want to link Aadhar PAN through an online or SMS procedure you can simply complete the linking process by visiting your nearest PAN center. You have to fill the application form with the required fee. You have to deliver the PAN card and Aadhar Card to the PAN center for the registration process.

How To Check Aadhaar PAN Link Status Online:

Before applying for the Aadhar PAN link online registration you need to check if your Aadhar and PAN card is already linked or not. You can check the Aadhar PAN link status with the help of the following steps-

  • Visit the Income Tax Department Official Website.
  • After logging in click ‘Link Aadhar’. Select the ‘Link Aadhar’ option in Personal Details under My Profile.
  • Click on the ‘Link Aadhar Know About Your Aadhar PAN Linking Status’ option.
  • Now enter the Aadhar card and PAN card details in the given boxes.
  • Click on the ‘View Link Aadhar Status’.
  • ‘Your PAN Is Linked To Aadhar Number’ status will be displayed if your Aadhar is already linked with the PAN card.
