National Food Security Mission Features:

The National Food Security Mission scheme was launched by the Government of India by following the guidelines of the 11th Five-year Plan in 2007-2008 to increase the cultivation area and production of pulses, wheat, and rice. This was a 100 % centrally sponsored scheme.

In October 2007, the Government of India initiated this Centrally Sponsored Scheme, called the “National Food Security Mission” due to stagnant food grain production and an increasing population.

The Mission met with a mind-boggling achievement and accomplished the designated extra creation of rice, wheat, and heartbeats. The Mission went on during the twelfth Long term Arrangement with new focuses of extra creation of food grains of 25 million tons of food grains containing 10 million tons rice, 8 million tons of wheat, 4 million tons of heartbeats, and 3 million tons of coarse cereals before the finish of twelfth Long term Arrangement.

Based on previous experience and execution of the 12th Arrangement, the program is being gone on up to 2019-20, which is a co-end with Fourteenth Money Commission (FFC) period. The objectives to accomplish are 13 million tons of extra foodgrains creation involving Rice – 5 million tons, Wheat-3 million tons, Heartbeats 3 million tons, and Coarse Grains 2 million tons.

National Food Security Mission Objectives:

  • Expanding the creation of heartbeats through Region Development and Usefulness Upgrade in an economical way.
  • Reestablishing Soil Richness and Usefulness at the singular homestead level.
  • Upgrading Homestead Level Economy (Ranch benefits) to reestablish certainty among ranchers.
  • To accomplish these destinations, the accompanying systems have been taken on.
  • Zero in on low usefulness and high likely regions.
  • Execution of editing framework-based mediations in a mission mode approach through dynamic commitment, everything being equal.
  • Zero in on Heartbeat creation through the usage of rice individual, intercropping of heartbeat with different yields.
