Ayushman Sahakar Yojana is the National Digital Health Mission launched by PM Narendra Modi. Sahakar Ayushman Sahakar Yojana comes under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

PM Narendra Modi launched Ayushman Sahakar Yojana on 15 August 2020. Through this scheme, NCDC (National Cooperative Development Corporation) started to play a meaningful role in evolving healthcare infrastructure in India.

Ayushman Sahakar Yojana Features:

The features of the Ayushman Sahakar Yojana are as follows-

  • The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) developed the PM AYUSH scheme
  • NCDC comes under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers welfare
  • Ayushman Sahakar Yojana helps to improve the condition of the healthcare services
  • It covers the following-
    • Expansion
    • Modernization
    • Establishment
    • Repairs and Renovation of hospitals
    • Healthcare Infrastructure
    • and Education
  • Ayushman Sahakar Fund is available through National Cooperative Development Corporation
  • Funds provided by Ayushman Sahakar are accessible to any cooperative society
  • This government will provide loans of Rs. 10,000 crore to the cooperatives
  • Through this scheme, working money and margin capital can also be available
  • An interest subsidy of 1% will be available to women maturity cooperatives

Ayushman Sahakar Yojana Objectives:

The objectives of Ayushman Sahakar Yojana are as follows-

To provide affordable and complete healthcare facilities through cooperative societies

To provide hospitals and education facilities

To promote the AYUSH facilities by the cooperative societies

To assist the different cooperatives to fulfill some objectives of the National Digital Health Mission

To assist cooperative societies to deliver complete healthcare including education, services, insurance, and activities related thereto

Who Finances AYUSH Scheme?

NCDC is financing the Ayushman Bharat scheme. It extends loans and has a fund which the cooperatives can access.

Ayushman Sahakar Scheme Benefits:

The benefits of this Ayushman Sahakar Scheme are as follows-

  • The villagers will get many facilities like health services and medical colleges through this scheme
  • The COVID-19 pandemic increased the requirements to design these facilities

NCDC is an apex body involved in the planning and financing of cooperative development programs at the national level. They are the body responsible for financing and overseeing the Ayushman Sahakar Scheme.

Ayushman Sahakar Scheme Significance:

The significance of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme are as follows-

  • There are around 52 hospitals across the country run by cooperatives with an incremental bed strength of 5000
  • After the implementation of the Ayushman Sahakar Scheme, this number can be increased
  • This implementation of the scheme shall also provide a boost to the healthcare services
  • This scheme is also in line with the National Health Policy, 2017
  • The cooperative hospitals receive funds from the Ayushman Sahakar scheme to take up medical / AYUSH education
  • Ayushman Sahakar and the National Digital Health Mission would bring transformation in rural areas by working in line with each other
  • NCDC service will flow either through the State Governments/ UT Administrations or directly to the eligible cooperatives

Ayushman Sahakar especially covers establishment, modernization, expansion, repairs, renovation of hospital and healthcare centers and education infrastructure containing-
  • Hospitals and/ or Medical Colleges for running UG and /or PG programs
  • Yoga wellness centers, Ayurveda, Allopathy, Homeopathy, and
  • Other traditional medicine healthcare centers
  • Health care services for the elderly, persons with disability, mentally challenged
  • Mobile Clinic Services and Emergency Medical Services
  • Drug testing laboratory and blood banks
  • Maternal health and Childcare services; Reproductive and Child Health services
  • Information and Communication Technology related to digital health,
  • Health insurance accredited by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA)
  • Any other related center or services as may be deemed fit by NCDC for assistance, and more

About National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC):

  • Under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) was established by an Act of Parliament in 1963 as a statutory Corporation
  • Since 1963, NCDC has extended around Rs.1.60 lakh crore as loans to cooperatives
  • The main function of NCDC is planning, promoting, and financing programs for the production, processing, marketing, storage, export
  • Import products and supply consumer goods are also the main functions of the NCDC
